ACTIVITY STATION

BENEFITS FOR THE CHILD

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

RINGS

Balance, Eye-Hand Coordination, Counting, Color Identification

Maintain balance during the activity at the halt - rider will place a ring on a pole 4 out of 5 times while maintaining balance independently. Improve motor planning - rider will lift ring off post 3 out of 5 times. Improve eye-hand coordination - rider will place ring on a pole 4 out of 5 times.

BRIDGES, INCLINES and DECLINES

Leg Control, Leg and Arm Coordination, Endurance, Balance, Weight Bearing

Improve leg and arm control/coordination - rider will rise into jockey position unassisted 4 times and maintain jockey position up an incline 6 times. Improve endurance - rider will maintain jockey position for 20 feet. Improve balance - rider will maintain balance independently during 5 turns to the left and 5 turns to the right. Rider will maintain balance on trail inclines and declines 90% of the time without physical assistance.

BASKETBALL

Eye-Hand Coordination, Self-Esteem, Self-Control, Balance

Improve eye-hand coordination - rider will score a basket 3 out of 5 throws. Improve self-esteem - rider will score 5 baskets in a row. Decrease impulsivity - rider will not throw ball until given permission 10 out of 10 times. Improve balance - rider will not fall backward, forward, or sideway after throwing the ball 3 out of 6 times.

NOODLES

Tactile Tolerance, Balance, Counting, Color Identification

Increase tactile tolerance - rider will tolerate tactile input to face and body as he passes through the noodles 3 out of 4 times. Improve balance reactions - rider will not need physical assistance to maintain balance while ducking through the noodles 4 out of 5 times. Improve sequential counting skills - rider will count up to 10 noodles correctly 100% of the time.

Sensory stations along the trail teach color, shape and letter recognition. Other stations will work on the rider's balance, tone and endurance.
 
The mailbox, ball tubes and beanbag toss provide opportunity for the rider to open and close, check for different items in the mailbox, explore different textures and sounds at the ball tubes - this develops fine motor skills, object recognition, tactile exploration and language skills.
